ABA Section of Antitrust Law 2010 Fall Forum National Press Club - Washington, DC November 18, 2010
On November 18, 2010, senior government enforcers, experienced practitioners and respected scholars will convene at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. to participate in the ABA Section of Antitrust Law's Fall Forum. By focusing on the significant developments of this extraordinary time, we have condensed this seminal program into a crisp, one day event without compromising its mission. The enforcers of the Obama Administration have undertaken a series of initiatives to put their own mark on antitrust law and policy. The Fall Forum will discuss how their objectives have affected businesses, consumers and the antitrust counselors who advise them. As is our tradition, both the U.S. Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission will deliver remarks on the current state of U.S. enforcement activity. We will also hear from government officials about trends in merger review and civil enforcement, devoting considerable time to the health care industry, which will be transformed as provisions of the Affordable Care Act take effect. Our program will also feature a rapid-fire debate on antitrust "hot topics" among three government officials articulating very different points of view. Finally, we have included panels with an international flavor that will critique cross-border cartel enforcement and cooperation. Rarely is there an occasion to hear domestic and international enforcers analyze and debate competition issues first hand. The Fall Forum offers a unique opportunity to probe the philosophy and reasoning of the enforcers' positions by asking questions directly to the esteemed panelists. The give-and-take that occurs during the actual program is just the beginning.
